News - Business
'Made in India' rising to challenge China: report"Made in India" could be the next big economic story with the country challenging China's position as the leading global manufacturing hub within five years, says a new report.

Right now China is the favourite choice for outsourcing manufacturing while India is preferred for information technology, finance and customer services, said Capgemini, Europe's largest computer consultancy.

But "there's a very keen interest in moving more manufacturing to India," said Roy Lenders, vice president at Capgemini Consulting Services and the report's author.

Blame the Philadelphia Phillies' power outage on rookie Ubaldo Jimenez and a Colorado bullpen that has been lights out for three weeks. The Rockies roared into the NL championship series Saturday night, completing a three-game sweep by beating Philadelphia 2-1 on pinch-hitter Jeff Baker's tiebreaking single with two outs in the eighth inning.

Colorado's 17th win in 18 games was fueled by Jimenez, the hard-throwing 23-year-old who allowed one run and three hits over 6 1-3 innings during a pitchers' duel at Coors Field, of all places. Then, those reliable Rockies relievers silenced Philadelphia's dangerous bats for the third straight game.

The wild-card Rockies get four days off before opening the NLCS on Thursday in Arizona, the first time two teams from the NL West have met in the league championship series.

"How about that? Nobody expected the Diamondbacks and Rockies to be in the National League championship this year," Colorado rookie Troy Tulowitzki said. "But here we are."

Greying Japan looks to robot suits for help
News - Technology
Greying Japan looks to robot suits for helpAs Japan greys, who will look after the elderly? Maybe one day their aging children -- in robot suits -- if technology under development comes out of the laboratory and into the home.

Among the array of futuristic products for the senior citizens or their caregivers on display at a trade fair this week in Tokyo was a power assist suit that makes it easier to lift an elderly person out of a wheelchair or bed.

The suit looks clunky, takes 10 minutes to put on, weighs thirty kilos (66 pounds) and has blinking lights and wires reminiscent of a robot in a sci-fi movie.

But it allows the wearer to lift a person as heavy as 100 kilos as if they were carrying only half that weight.

"I don't feel heavy at all. Because of air pumped in the suit, I just feel like I'm carrying a normal backpack," said Hiroi Tsukui, a participant in the project as she carried a young man onto a table to demonstrate to onlookers.

For now the suit, developed by Kanagawa Institute of Technology, is only made to order and generally targeted at nursing homes and hospitals.

But Tsukui hopes it will be used in ordinary homes in the future.

Israel may have tricked Syria radars to conceal raid
News - Technology
Israel may have tricked Syria radars to conceal raidIsraeli fighter planes may have managed to escape detection by Syrian radars during their September 6 raid by forcing the detection system to make a mistake, Aviation Week magazine reported.

US defense and industry officials believe Israeli F-15 and F-16 fighter jets may have been equipped with the US-developed "Suter" airborne network attack system, the magazine said on its website.

The technology allows users to invade communications networks, see what enemy sensors see and even take over as systems administrator to manipulate sensors into positions to hide an approaching aircraft, the report said.

On Tuesday, Israeli military radio confirmed for the first time that a raid into Syria had taken place.

US and British media have reported that Israeli planes struck a suspected nuclear site, in which North Korean specialists may have been involved.

Danger Lurks on Government Web Sites
News - security
Danger Lurks on Government Web SitesThe U.S. federal government took steps earlier this week to shut down Web sites in California in order to protect the public from hacked Web sites, but new incidents show that the problem is not going away any time soon.

On Thursday, compromised pages hosted by the Brookhaven National Laboratory and the Superior Court of Madera County, California, were still hosting inappropriate content. Brookhaven had links that redirected visitors to pornographic Web servers, and the Madera County court site featured ads for porn and Viagra.

Brookhaven has begun an investigation into the incident, said Tom Schlagel, a manager with the lab's information technology division. "From what I've been told, there isn't any evidence that there's any pornography on the server," he said. "It's all just redirections."

Brookhaven is a U.S. Department of Energy lab that specializes in nuclear and high-energy research.
